BORN: Sept. 24, 1952

U.S. Representative Joseph P. Kennedy II was elected to Congress in 1986; he is the eldest son of U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy; born on September 24, 1952 in Brighton, Massachusetts where he currently resides with his second wife, Beth Kelly Kennedy. He is the father of twin boys from a previous marriage to Sheila Rauch of whom he annulled the marriage.

In 1979, Kennedy founded Citizens Energy Corporation, a non-profit energy company providing cut-rate heating oil to low-income and elderly households. Citizens grew under his leadership to encompass seven separate companies with annual revenues in excess of $1.5 billion.

In March 1998 Joe announced he will not be seeking re-election in Congress and will again take over operations for his brother Michael who died in Dec. 1997.

Rumor has it though, that Joe may decide to run for uncle Ted's Senate seat whenever he shall retire-- we shall see.
